Mexican Teacher

About me and how this starts...

I have always been fascinated by the folklore, food, culture, and traditions of my country. I firmly believe that we are fortunate to live in such a vibrant and colorful place. My name is Gabriela, and the idea of creating Ask a Mexican came to life during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am a guide, scuba diving instructor, and designer, but during that time, tourism came to a halt, and so did my tour business. That’s when the idea of starting Ask a Mexican—an online Spanish learning program for foreigners—was born.

Yes, there were many platforms already offering this service, but my close relationship with foreigners gave me a unique understanding of this market’s needs. I realized that what those platforms lacked was a genuine connection with people. My goal wasn’t just to teach the language; it was to share the heart of Mexico: its culture, slang, funny stories, music, history, and the quirky things that make us Mexicans. These were aspects that, as a foreigner in Mexico, no one else was teaching.

So, I decided to create my own platform, where I could share all of this with anyone eager to learn. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to meet incredible people, laugh, learn, and enjoy every moment with each student who joins Ask a Mexican with the dream of learning Spanish and understanding our culture.

I feel deeply proud of everyone who has been part of this journey and their accomplishments. I love continuing to share the richness and nuances of my incredible country with every new learner.
