About Me and How It All Began

Hello, I'm Gabriela! Ever since I can remember, I've been captivated by the vibrant folklore, mouth-watering food, rich culture, and fascinating traditions of Mexico. I truly believe we are lucky to live in such a colorful and lively place.

The idea for Ask a Mexican was born out of a moment of pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a guide, scuba diving instructor, and designer, my tour business came to a halt, and that’s when I realized how much I wanted to share the heart of Mexico with the world. I wanted to create more than just another language learning platform. My vision was to offer a genuine connection—a bridge between Mexico’s rich culture and those eager to learn Spanish, beyond just grammar and vocabulary.

There are many platforms offering Spanish lessons, but here's the difference: No one can teach you about Mexico like a true Mexican. While other expats may understand the challenges of learning a new language, they can never offer the same deep, authentic connection to the culture, the slang, the history, and the true essence of what it means to be Mexican. That’s why I created Ask a Mexican—a place where you not only learn Spanish but immerse yourself in our culture, customs, music, history, and all the quirky little things that make us truly Mexican.

It’s been an amazing journey meeting incredible people from all over the world and sharing this love for our language and culture. I feel incredibly proud of everyone who has joined this journey, and I’m excited to continue guiding learners through the rich tapestry of Mexico, one lesson at a time.
